Richard Cresswell to leave his role as head of academy coaching at Leeds United

Richard Cresswell has announced on social media that he is leaving his role as head academy coaching at Leeds United .

The former Whites striker took up the role at Thorp Arch in June 2018, where he was responsible for implementing training methods among the club's various age groups from primary school age right up to Carlos Corberan's successful under-23 side.

During his time in the post the club built a new two-storey building to house academy staff at Thorp Arch, as Marcelo Bielsa's masterplan for every aspect of the club was enacted.

After just over a year in the job Cresswell, who netted 11 time for Leeds as a player during two seasons in the mid-noughties, has confirmed he is stepping down from the role.

"On Friday it will be my last day at Leeds United Academy," he posted on Instagram. "I have made the decision to step down from my role as Head of Academy Coaching.

"I would like to thank everyone for the support I have had during my time at the club. A special mention to all the parents who sacrifice their time to get the young boys to the academy 4/5 times a week. I personally know how hard this is....

"On to the next chapter.."

Richard's son Charlie is currently in the academy set-up and following an excellent season with the under-18s last term will be looking to step up and become a regular with the under-23s this year. They start their defence of their Professional Development League title on Monday August 19 when they host Millwall at Thorp Arch.
