Richard Bacon to stand in as host of Good Morning Britain

Richard Bacon is to stand in at Good Morning Britain in the seat that used to be taken by Piers Morgan.

The former host of The Big Breakfast will be part of the presenting team at GMB next week.

Richard did a stint on the ITV breakfast show two years ago, and will now be back - according to The Mirror.

Richard, who hosted Channel 4 show The Big Breakfast from 1999 to 2002, said: “Not only am I coming home to London to guest present Good Morning Britain this month, but being back on British breakfast broadcasting feels like coming home also.”

He is due to host alongside Charlotte Hawkins next Wednesday, Kate Garraway on the Thursday and Friday, and finally Ranvir Singh on Monday, August 23.

Richard, who presented Blue Peter in 1997 and 1998, said: “I can’t wait to see the team again and am very much looking forward to my time on the show with Kate, Ranvir and Charlotte.”

Bill Turnbull, Richard Madeley and former Labour spin doctor Alastair Campbell have filled in for Piers, 56, since he left the show after failing to apologise for comments about Meghan Markle.

GMB editor Neil Thompson said: “Our mix of guest hosts alongside our brilliant family of presenters has been a great success over recent months.

"We’re delighted Richard can return to join us this summer.”

A source said: “ITV are using these guest presenter slots to decide what works and what doesn’t. Bacon is an exciting prospect.”
