Richard Bacon shares touching words GMB co-star said to him before return as viewers cast verdict

Richard Bacon has shared the message from a Good Morning Britain co-star which left him feeling 'touched'.

The former Blue Peter presenter made his return to the ITV news programme on Wednesday alongside Charlotte Hawkins.

Richard is guest hosting on the show for four days until Monday, August 23.

He replaces Kate Garraway today before she returns to host alongside him on Thursday and Friday.

Then Richard will join Ranvir Singh on Monday as GMB continue to rotate its rota of presenters.

Kicking off Wednesday's show, Richard welcomed viewers to the programme before Charlotte turned to him and said: "Welcome to you.

"Great to have you here, welcome back."

Richard then went on to reveal what another GMB star said to him as he arrived at the studios this morning.

"Richard Arnold just said 'welcome home' out in the corridor," he said. "I was quite touched. It was quite sweet.

"It’s great to be here. It’s very exciting. The voiceover at the beginning where it says 'Live from Television Centre'..."

Richard was thrilled to be back on the programme (ITV)

Charlotte then commented: "The excitement building?” before Richard continued: "It certainly does, it feels big doesn’t it?"

“You’re on live television right now,” Charlotte jokingly reminded him as the voiceover was replayed.

Richard laughed: "There that! It feels a bit less big the second time.

"For me, I haven’t done this for a couple of years and I live in America now where I have a slightly silly job, basically presenting gameshows, introducing gameshows - which is a strange thing to do in the world - but to actually come back and do this, my first love is news and current affairs so to come back and talk about things that matter."

Charlotte jokingly reminded Richard he was on TV (ITV)

Charlotte then said: “It’s great to have you back, a few things have changed, post-Covid, we’re further away at the moment, so you get used to how things work.

"We are on the biggest desk in the world probably in a newsroom."

And fans have been having their say on Richard's return.

"Great to see Richard Bacon on GMB today. Don’t care what people say, I think he’s a legend and will surprise a few people today. #Gmb," one tweeted.

Another said: "Loving Richard Bacon ….. sign him up permanently please because Adil and Madeley aren’t cutting it."

"@GMB loving Richard Bacon…. Need to sign him up permanently," a third echoed.

A fourth said: "Give Richard Bacon the full time job ….. best guess host my miles."
