Richard Agar makes Aidan Sezer confession as Leeds Rhinos close in on halfback

Richard Agar has confirmed Leeds Rhinos' interest in halfback Aidan Sezer.

As first revealed by Rugby League Live, the Australian is a target for the Challenge Cup holders, with the Rhinos launching a move last month.

Talks have been ongoing in recent weeks, with the club making progress as they look to secure Huddersfield Giants' marquee man.

A move is thought to be nearing completion and with speculation continuing to intensify, Agar broke his silence on the reports, confirming they were keen on securing the former Canberra Raider playmaker.

"I think it's been widely reported that we have an interest in Aidan, which is true," he told Sky Sports.

"We have spoken to a number of halfbacks and in a market where halfbacks are sometimes hard to come by, we do think there's a number of options to us this time with different permutations and styles.

"But he's here in the country, playing exceptionally well for Huddersfield, he played really well against us, and he's a player we'd like to get on our books for next year and beyond."

The Rhinos have been pursuing a halfback following the departure of Kyle Eastmond while Rob Lui is also set to leave at the end of the campaign. That has left the club on the lookout for a new senior half to work alongside captain Luke Gale.

Sezer, an NRL Grand Finalist with the Raiders, joined the Giants last season and finished in the top five of the Man Of Steel rankings during his maiden campaign.

However, the Giants have signed Tui Lolohea and Theo Fages for next season, leaving Sezer on the outer.
