Rich Scangarello responds to Joe Flacco’s postgame remarks

After the Broncos’ 15-13 loss to the Colts last week, quarterback Joe Flacco was clearly frustrated in his postgame press conference. Flacco was disappointed with the team’s conservative play-calling, which was an indirect criticism of offensive coordinator Rich Scangarello.

“I just felt like, what do we have to lose?” Flacco said Sunday. “Why can’t we be aggressive in some of these situations? That’s kind of how I feel about a lot of the game today.”

During his weekly media availability session Thursday, Scangarello was asked for his response to Flacco’s criticism.

“You’d have to ask what Joe meant behind that comment, but when I see Joe’s comments, I just saw a quarterback that had lost a game and he was very frustrated with how it went,” Scangarello said. “We’ve lost a couple of heartbreakers.

“He’s a competitor, and that stuff bothers him, whatever it might be, and I think in that moment something he said came out, but it’s nothing more than that. He’s in the building, he’s great and everything is good.”

Things may have smoothed over between Flacco and Scangarello, but the quarterback might not get another chance to play this season.

Flacco aggravated a neck injury during Sunday’s loss, and the team might place him on injured reserve. Brandon Allen will start in Flacco’s place against the Browns in Week 9.
