Rich Paul ‘likes the idea’ of Anthony Davis in New York if Lakers fail

It’s never too early to start thinking about next year in the National Basketball Association. While players across the league are focused on the upcoming chase for a championship in what many see as the most wide-open title race in decades, management and agents can never look too far ahead. And although Anthony Davis is a Los Angeles Laker now, he will be a free agent in 2020, which is something to think about considering the Lakers recent history of ineptitude.

LeBron or no LeBron, the Lakers have been an organizational disaster for several years and haven’t made the playoffs in six years. With the Western Conference as loaded as ever, a worst-case scenario like last season’s can’t be written off. And so with Davis’ free agency less than a year away, it’s worth wondering where he might go if he needs an escape hatch.

According to Marc Berman of the New York Post, New York is a location in the mind of his agent Rich Paul of Klutch Sports.

The 2020 free-agent pool is short on stars, but they could be one of the favorites for big fish Anthony Davis if the Lakers implode. Rich Paul, Davis’ agent, likes the idea of his client in New York, according to a source.

As Berman writes, the 2020 class of free agents is low on star power. Would-be 2020 free agent and fellow Klutch Sports client Draymond Green recently signed an extension with the Golden State Warriors, taking him off the market.

Of course, it’s worth wondering whether Davis would actually chose to go to New York. Sure the idea of the New York market is great, but the idea of actually playing for the Knicks franchise doesn’t matchup with all of the perks.
