Rich must pay their fair share and not hide it away in tax havens

We are letting the super-rich exploit us when Britain is at the centre of a £100billion tax haven spider’s web.

Force them to pay fair instead of stashing away fortunes and we would have the money to revive the NHS, improve schools, build houses and raise living standards.

It is shaming that our government enables four of the world’s 10 worst tax havens - Jersey, Bermuda, Cayman Islands and the British Virgin Islands – to operate, and evidence that it serves the multi-millionaires not the many.

These parasitic islands are bleeding Britain dry by allowing the wealthy to dodge dues, often legally, other times not so.

It’s time to get tough on British nationals and footloose and financially free tycoons enjoying our country.

Tax havens must publish details of who is funnelling what offshore.

We want the super-rich paying higher rates than their cleaners and drivers.

Party crashing

The fallout from the European Parliament elections continues at pace.

The Tory Party remains just as terrified of Nigel Farage as it was when David Cameron promised the Brexit referendum in the first place – a devious tail wagging the dog.

Leadership contenders on the party’s right are now pushing a damaging no-deal Brexit. Such talk is reckless but parliament has, so far, thankfully remained firm in its opposition.

Meanwhile Labour is also licking its wounds, with senior figures convinced that Jeremy Corbyn will finally back a second referendum.

It is a move that must now be inevitable given the number of votes the party lost to the Lib Dems and Greens.

Welcome back

Gavin and Stacey are returning to TV for one night only after nine years somewhere between Barry and Billericay.

Wherever they are, the Christmas special announced by creators James Corden and Ruth Jones promises to be well lush.
