West Ham have just two players on expiring permanent contracts come the end of the season, whenever that may be, as they managed to tie down the majority of those expiring deals while Manuel Pellegrini was at the club.
Declan Rice, Manuel Lanzini, Mark Noble, Robert Snodgrass, Arthur Masuaku and Grady Diangana have all signed new deals in east London while the Chilean was at the helm.
But David Moyes wants to bring the average age of his squad down over the coming months during the next transfer window but we still don’t know when this season will end thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Moyes started to make an imprint on the squad in January by signing 25-year-old Tomas Soucek and 23-year-old Jarrod Bowen, the latter on a £22m deal from Hull City on transfer deadline day.
The Hammers aren't going to lose out on much this summer with those players whose contracts are expiring, apart from one which they do need to get sorted. With the extension of the Premier League season expected to arrive at some point, it could finish past June 30 which is when the deals expire.
Clubs are likely to show some common sense, you’d hope, and agree to a slight waving of that date in order for the teams to complete their respective seasons with the players still at the club.
