Ribeye Steakhouse in Manchester City Centre closes for deep clean after staff member tests positive for Covid-19

A city centre steakhouse has been forced to close temporarily after a member of staff tested positive for coronavirus.

Ribeye Steakhouse on First Street shut their doors on Monday and cancelled all bookings, as soon as they learned of the positive test result.

The effected member of staff came into work for two hours on Sunday (August 2), and was sent home after reporting they felt unwell.

They are not believed to have come into direct contact with any customers.

Restaurant bosses have been told by health officials they can re-open, providing all their staff test negative and a deep clean of the premises is carried out.

All other staff at the steakhouse have now tested negative for Covid-19, with one final worker still waiting for a result.

The restaurant's manager confirmed they had closed after a positive test, however, this morning a sign on the front of the restaurant said they had closed due to an "electrical fault."

The sign reads: "Unfortunately, due to an electrical fault we will have to close today. Sorry for any inconvenience caused."

He said that every staff member working at the restaurant had taken a coronavirus test, and were awaiting all the results before they re-open.

A deep clean of the venue is also expected to take place today.

The manager said he had received guidance from Public Health England, that the restaurant could re-open from Wednsday, as the virus had been contained to one individual.

"It is true that a member of staff came into work for two hours on Sunday and felt unwell so we sent them home," the manager told the M.E.N.

"They have done a test and that has come back postitive.

"As soon as we found out we closed the restaurant and all members of staff have had a test, including myself."

"We cancelled all bookings yesterday (Monday) and were waiting to take the next steps until we received some guidance.

"We have spoken to Public Health England and we can do a deep clean and re-open from tomorrow.

"No other staff members have tested positive, and we are just waiting for the result of one final staff member before we re-open.

"We have been told that because the staff member did not meet the public, there is no risk."
