The kind of the murder mystery, Rian Johnson, created the hit television series Poker Face was a vehicle for Natasha Lyonne’s Charlie Cale, a human lie detector. The Columbo-esque procedural found a home at Peacock until now. The streaming platform canceled it after two seasons.
But there isn’t any loss of hope for the future of Poker Face. News broke via The Hollywood Reporter and the outlet shared that Johnson and the independent studio MRC Television that helped make the series will shop the series around. But with a twist: Natasha Lyonne is set to be recast.
Lyonne’s energy as Charlie Cale matched that of Peter Falk’s Columbo so beautifully that it just felt like a perfect 1 to 1 trade for a modern take on the idea. Now, the series will be shopped around with Peter Dinklage as Charlie. According to the publication, every two seasons will have a different actor taking on Charlie Cale.
That’s fine by me! Honestly, my only requirement would be that the actor that is chosen needs to have Peter Falk energy and both Lyonne and Dinklage do have that vibe to them. So if we keep with the Columbo ties, I am fine with whatever Johnson has planned for Poker Face‘s future.
Poker Face needs to get picked up by someone

As a fan of Johnson’s entire deal, I really enjoyed what he was doing with Poker Face. It felt like a return to the kind of shows I grew up watching and what made me fall in love with television in the first place. So the idea that the series only got two seasons hurts, especially when so many mega stars wanted to be a part of it.
The fact that Johnson is ready to shop the series around with a plan for its future is hopeful. Especially given how well Lyonne’s run as Charlie Cale did with audiences. So I do hope that a network or a streamer picks the series up and lets it live on.
So don’t be discouraged, we can have more Poker Face in the future. It’s just going to look a little different.
