Rhys Webb posts cryptic message as Wales unveil new Rugby World Cup kit

Rhys Webb has hinted at a return to Welsh rugby after replying to the Welsh Rugby Union on social media with a cryptic hashtag.

The WRU unveiled their new kit for the World Cup in Japan on Saturday morning - a tournament Webb won't be playing in - but the Toulon scrum-half couldn't resist commenting on one of their social media posts.

On the WRU's Instagram post of the new kit, Webb joked: "Lovely shirt... I guess I'll have to start buying them now" before adding a hashtag saying 'I'll be back'.

Quite what the 30-year-old means by that hashtag is anyone's guess.

Webb has in the past referenced returning to Wales after his Toulon contract is up, but has ruled out an immediate return ahead of the World Cup in Japan. However, his choice to comment on the announcement of the kit that will likely be out of use by the time he returns home is a strange one.

Without an immediate return, Webb won't be eligible to play in Japan, having ruled himself out of international selection after joining Toulon just as Wales announced a new 60-cap policy that meant foreign-based players with less Test appearances than that number couldn't play for Wales.

Being the first high-profile casualty, the story has naturally rumbled on - although Webb has always insisted he is staying in France and the WRU are not set to budge on their policy.

Wales have named three scrum-halves in their training squad, with Gareth Davies, Tomos Williams and Aled Davies having all played major roles in the last year for Warren Gatland's side.
