Rhys Davies signing is a "huge boost" for Luncarty, says manager Robbie Holden

Luncarty manager Robbie Holden admits the signing of Rhys Davies is a huge boost for the club.

The striker has switched to Brownlands Park from local rivals Kinnoull, where last season he netted 50 goals.

Holden is looking forward to seeing him in action and can’t wait for the East of Scotland League campaign to kick off tomorrow afternoon.

“Rhys is a huge signing,” Holden said. “He caused problems for us twice last year and was the difference. So to be able to get him is a big boost for us. He can run, score goals and link play so I’m excited to see him in our team.”

Pre-season has been going well, lifted last Saturday with an impressive 2-1 friendly win against Clydebank thanks to goals from Ben Ayton and Olly Hamilton.

Now attention turns to this weekend’s First Division opener against Whitehill Welfare and Holden said: “They have some top players. They are a big club who have been in the Lowland League and are managed by someone who has been there and done it.

"The standard of the league will be excellent. There are no bad teams this year with the top half of the two conferences merging and four coming down from the Premier Division. It will be a big challenge for us.”

The Bleachers have also welcomed young St Johnstone goalkeeper Craig Hepburn on loan. Hepburn recently played for a Saints B team against Jeanfield Swifts.

Kinnoull, meanwhile, kick off their First Division campaign with an away trip to Camelon tomorrow afternoon.

The Perth side lifted the J Farquhar Cup during pre-season and rounded off friendly action on Saturday with a victory against Newburgh.
