Rhydyfelin residents to get scored on their recycling as part of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council trial

Households in Rhydyfelin could be about to get letters in the post telling them how good or bad they are at recycling as part of a plan by Rhondda Cynon Taf Council.

Bosses at the local authority are looking at running the trial scheme to tackle low recycling rates in the area.

People doing more than there fair share for the environment will be graded green, while those doing average or poor will be sent amber and red notices in the post.

The scheme was recently tried out in in Ynysybwl as part of a scheme called Everyone's Doing It .

It increased saw green ratings increase from 508 to 665 with a reduction in ambers from 391 to 272 and reds down from 170 to 113.

Councillor Maureen Webber, the deputy leader of the council and ward member for Rhydyfelin Central said she was not happy with the low recycling rates and high black bag usage.

She added: "I am more than happy to support the trial if it will go some way to addressing some problems. It is most important to increase recycling figures."

The Welsh Government has set a target for councils in Wales to reach a recycling rate of 70% by 2024/25.
