Rhodri Giggs blasts family for 'not being happy' about advert poking fun at Ryan

Rhodri Giggs has admitted he hasn't spoke to his mum for several years and has said his family are "not happy" about his controversial television advert.

In the PaddyPower releases Rhodri Giggs advert saying 'loyalty gets you nowhere' he pokes fun at himself and makes some cheeky references to his brother Ryan's eight-year affair with his ex-wife.

Entitled 'Loyalty is dead", he described the advert as "poking fun" at the situation because he was over it.

But it has left him estranged from his family, and speaking on Good Morning Britain on Wednesday he admitted that his relationship with his family was strained and he last spoke to his mum about "two or three years ago".

In an interview with stand in host Richard Madeley, he opened up about his family's reaction to the advert.

Being Rhodri Giggs: My life after what happened and why I'll always support Wales despite Ryan

"It was just a bit of fun," he said, insisting that he wanted to get rid of "unhelpful negativity". "There was a lot of things I could have done."

Asked about the suggestion his family had made that he had "overstepped the mark", he said: "I think he overstepped the mark, I didn't. What he did was a car crash, what I did was a joke."

He said that finding out about his brother's affair with wife of ten years Natasha was a "shock" but that he had since moved on.

Rhodri admitted that he hadn't spoken to Ryan, saying: "I can't worry about someone who does something like that and says all the right things but doesn't do the right things."

Insisting that he was "fine" with not speaking to his brother and that Ryan "might be upset with the advert" but Rhodri said he is focused on his children.

"They're more important than someone like that," he said.

Rhodri also revealed that his children had little contact with his side of the family, saying: "Obviously it affects them quite a bit."

He added: "If we bump into each other then it would be amicable... there's not much more I can do."
