Rhino poacher trampled to death by elephant then eaten by lions in South Africa

A suspected rhino poacher was trampled to death by an elephant then eaten by lions, according to park officials in South Africa.

Officials at Kruger National Park shared the gruesome details of the incident which happened on Tuesday.

The deceased man’s family were informed of their relative’s demise by a group of poachers he was with, according to reports.

They called officials at the park who embarked upon a search – in which a human skull and pair of trousers were recovered.

"Entering Kruger National Park illegally and on foot is not wise,” the park’s managing executive Glenn Phillips told the Lebata Herald.

"It holds many dangers and this incident is evidence of that."

He extended sympathy to the relatives mourning their loss.

Four people have been arrested in relation to poaching following the incident.
