Rhian Brewster transfer intrigue continues as Sheffield United make admission over Liverpool man

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder admits the Yorkshire club are running out of time to strike a deal for Liverpool forward Rhian Brewster.

Wilder wants to snap up Brewster to help bolster an attack that floundered once again on Sunday in their derby defeat at home to Leeds United.

The Blades have now failed to score while losing their first three Premier League campaign, with their only goal of the season coming in the Carabao Cup defeat at Burnley.

Liverpool have already given little encouragement to an offer from Sheffield United of a season-long loan move for Brewster, and would prefer a permanent deal for a player they value at around £20million.

However, while Wilder has held talks with Reds counterpart Jurgen Klopp over the 20-year-old, the Blades board have yet to sanction a transfer with the clock ticking down on the October 5 deadline.

"I have been focusing on the team but time is running out and we all understand that," said Wilder when asked for the latest on the Brewster situation.

Sheffield United are in need of reinforcements with left-back Jack O'Connell having been ruled out for the season with a serious knee injury.

"I have recommended to the board that we bring a couple of players in," added Wilder.

"We have put some names to them and hopefully they will look at that and agree with my assessment that we need to strengthen."

Wilder, meanwhile, has dismissed speculation of a move for former Liverpool forward Daniel Sturridge.

"No contact," said the Blade boss. "He's not a player that interests me or is of interest to me."
