Rhian Brewster makes Liverpool future statement as he joins up with Jurgen Klopp in pre-season

Rhian Brewster has made a strong statement over his possible Liverpool future as the squad begin their pre-season in Austria.

The Reds forward spent the remainder of last season on loan at Championship outfit Swansea City, who missed out on promotion coming up short in the playoff semi-final.

Brewster impressed during his spell in South Wales with the Swans manager keen to bring him back for another promotion push next campaign.

Jurgen Klopp is said to be considering available options and will make a decision on Rhian Brewster's fate after their pre-season training camp but will only consider another loan deal for the striker to improve his game.

Now, Brewster has declared while he is open to a temporary spell away from Anfield, he wants to stay and be 'the striker' for Liverpool because they're the 'home of the champions'.

Speaking to The Beautiful Game Podcast he said: "Of course I want to be at Liverpool next season, be fighting for a spot to play. Who is not going to want to play at the home of the champions?

"Of course you're not really wanting to go on loan but if that's the best thing for me to do in that situation, so I'm going to get more gametime then that's what I'm going to do.

"But realistically, I want to play at Liverpool, I want to be 'the striker'."

Clearly speaking before the squad travelled to their preseason base, Brewster confirmed he would be attending the camp and is determined to show the Liverpool manager what he is capable of in hopes of forcing his way into Klopp's plans for the season ahead.

He said: "I'm just going to go to Evian and work hard and do what I can. And whatever the boss says I need to do, I'm going to accept - whether I stay, whether I go back on loan."

The Reds had planned to fly out to the Evian-les-Bains camp near the border of Geneva for a truncated pre-season programme but last minute plans meant they instead arrived in Austria earlier today.

The last-minute change was enforced by the government's decision to add France to the quarantine list after it was confirmed that anyone flying to France from Saturday onwards would be made to self-isolate for 14 days upon return to the United Kingdom.

With France being added to the list alongside the Netherlands and Malta, the Premier League champions were forced to move to a contingency plan that had been in place for such an eventually.

During his 22 games for Swansea, Brewster scored 11 goals, including one in Wednesday night’s defeat to Brentford in the play-off semi-final second leg.

Swansea City boss Steve Cooper has already admitted his desire to see the striker return.

He told Wales Online: "If a loan is in Liverpool’s plans for Rhian again we want to be right in there for him.

"I know he’s loved already by the supporters and that’s mutual. He’s very well liked around the football club.

"He’s not just a good player – he’s a really good lad."
