An event to illuminate winter streets with hundreds of thousands of blue light-emitting diodes (LEDs) is being held in Shibuya Ward, Tokyo, enveloping the area in a fantastic atmosphere.

In the "Ao no Dokutsu Shibuya" (Blue grotto Shibuya) event, about 600,000 LEDs illuminate 800 meters of street, stretching from Koendori avenue to the avenue lined with zelkova trees in Yoyogi Park from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. every evening.

The portion of the illumination at Yoyogi Park will be held until Dec. 31. The avenue will be illuminated until the next morning on the final day.

Koendori avenue will be illuminated until Jan. 14.

Visitors to the event also can enjoy experience-based attractions.

On a recent day, visitors to the event were seen enjoying strolling along the avenue with zelkova trees or taking pictures.
