RFL launch investigation into Warrington Wolves coach Steve Price over 'derogatory' live TV comments

The Rugby Football League have opened an investigation into Warrington Wolves coach Steve Price following comments he made after the club's 44-18 Super League victory over Leigh on Thursday.

During the post-match interview with Sky Sports, Price compared forward Ellis Longstaff to John Bateman before claiming Longstaff had "m*** strength".

Clips of the interview quickly circulated online leading to Warrington issuing a statement later on Thursday evening apologising for the remarks.

The statement said: "The club apologises for the hurtful and derogatory language used by head coach Steve Price during tonight's post-match Sky Sports interview.

"The term is wholly unacceptable and its usage has no place in the sport or society.

"Steve has since apologised, expressing his extreme regret and disappointment and corrected his remarks in his post-match press conference. The club will make no further comment and the matter will be dealt with internally."

The RFL confirmed to the Super League club on Friday that the Australian will now be subject to investigation as they take the matter further.

The RFL recently launched their Tackle It initiative and maintain a strict zero-tolerance policy on abusive and offensive language, although it is not yet clear what punishment Price will face.
