A lot of hot takes have and will surface after the New England Patriots’ Week 6 loss to the Denver Broncos.
Despite failing to score a touchdown, Drew Lock’s offense had control of the game and Cam Newton’s offense struggled to stay on the field for more than three downs at a time. From an outside perspective, it was a bad look for the Patriots.
But, it’s the same team that didn’t practice over two weeks and had an enormously depleted offensive line. Positive COVID-19 tests have left the Patriots scrambling and they weren’t ready to hit the field.
Regardless, Newton threw two interceptions and wide receivers didn’t collectively hit 70 yards in the game. On ESPN’s ‘Get Up’, Rex Ryan had strong opinions about where the Patriots offense is at.
“Man, oh man, this looks like a disaster to me,” Ryan said, transcribed by NESN. “I never saw that arm talent. He wouldn’t snap the football, he was kind of pushing the ball. He wasn’t accurate down the field, which we have seen throughout his career, but with Josh McDaniels, I give him so much credit because early in the season we [saw him be] accurate in those deals. But, this is scary to me.
“Look, we all know there’s no weapons out there and the fact we see that highlight where Cam is sitting there waiting, waiting and waiting, you have to throw to guys open and unfortunately right now I don’t know if Cam is accurate enough or has enough zip on the football to throw guys open.”
Newton was 17-of-25 with 157 passing yards and the two interceptions, along with 76 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown. It was a tough display and the Patriots have a tougher defense in the San Francisco 49ers to worry about next week.
