Rex Manning Day, explained

This week is quite the week for sports and entertainment, with WrestleMania, the men’s and women’s NCAA national championships, the Masters and Game of Thrones’ final season debut all happening in the same week.

But all that is not important today. For today is Rex Manning Day.

What is Rex Manning Day, you ask?

Rex Manning is a fictitious music star from the 90s cult movie Empire Records. The film takes place during one day at a record store in a small town, and that day is the day that Manning – a past-his-prime sellout who’s like some unholy cross between Neil Diamond and Chris Isaak, yet somehow lamer than both – is scheduled to come in and sign autographs at their store.

That day, dubbed by the employees, is Rex Manning Day.

Today, April 8, is that blessed day. It’s Rex Manning Day.

If you haven’t seen Empire Records, go fix that. It’s fantastic.

So no more, mon amour. Go out there and have a good one.
