Rex Heuermann makes chilling admission as he’s sentenced to life in prison

  • Rex Heuermann , the Gilgo Beach serial killer , was sentenced to life in prison without parole Wednesday, bringing an emotional conclusion to a decades-long murder case that haunted Long Island.
  • Families of the victims applauded and cheered in the courtroom after the judge , who described Heuermann as a "disgusting and despicable man" and a "coward,” handed down the sentence.
  • Heuermann was permitted to speak, stating, "I am responsible for all that was said in this room... The words I say have no meaning," and responded "yes" when the judge asked if he was sorry for his crimes against at least eight women.
  • Victims' families confronted Heuermann during the hearing, with one cousin declaring, "A million years isn’t enough," and another mother emphasizing, "Justice has been done, but it can’t replace what has been taken."
  • The sentencing resolves an extraordinary investigation into one of New York's most perplexing mysteries, as Heuermann, a 62-year-old architect, admitted in April to killing eight women whose remains were found along a coastal parkway.
