Rex Grossman is too busy to take Johnny Manziel's place as Browns QB

Dec. 23--Rex Grossman has better things to do than play quarterback for the Cleveland Browns.

Like, you know, kite-surfing.

And play Clark Griswald during Christmas vacation.

That's right. With Johnny Manziel out with a hamstring injury and Brian Hoyer nursing a sore shoulder, the Browns were suddenly in need of a veteran quarterback just to finish out the season in Week 17.

According to multiple media reports, they reached out to Grossman, who spent some time with the Browns during training camp and would have earned more $50,000 for a week's worth of work.

But Grossman reportedly turned them down because he has the whole family in town for Christmas and, well, it's just more fun to play in the sun in Palm Beach than to play quarterback for the Cleveland Browns.

Can't really argue with that.

The Browns went on to sign Tyler Thigpen, another veteran QB who also spent some time with the team this summer, on Tuesday morning.

Hoyer hasn't been officially ruled out for Sunday. Coach Mike Pettine said the guy who took most of the snaps for Cleveland this season before losing his starting job to Manziel would be evaluated throughout the week.

The only other quarterback on the Browns' roster is undrafted rookie Connor Shaw, who could very well end up getting the start against at Baltimore this weekend.
