Rex Burkhead tweets out encouraging message after suffering season-ending injury

It wasn’t just the 27-20 upset loss that hurt on Sunday against the Texans. The injuries that came in the match-up were just as devastating if not more so.

Rex Burkhead was running well this season and looked to be in the discussion for the Patriots’ most effective back. However, that all came to an end Sunday when he suffered a season-ending knee injury that may end his time in New England.

And, while many people may have had a negative attitude regarding the situation, the former Nebraska Cornhusker has a much more upbeat outlook in his social media message to fans.

The future for Burkhead seems to be up in the air at this point. As a 30-year-old soon-to-be unrestricted free agent, this injury came at a very inopportune time.

It’s not inconceivable that Burkhead finds his way back to New England next season, especially considering he was on pace to have his best season since coming to New England in 2017. However, this news will certainly limit his options and decrease his value.

Burkhead’s 2020 campaign finishes with 67 carries for 274 yards and three touchdowns on the ground, as well as 25 receptions for 192 yards and three touchdowns through the air.
