Rewind Festival North cancelled after severe flooding hits Cheshire

The popular Rewind North festival, which was due to take place this weekend at Capesthorne Hall, has been forced to cancel due to 'extreme weather'.

Organisers of the festival, which had Gloria Gaynor, Thin Lizzy and Bananarama as headliners, shared the news this morning, saying they are 'unable to deliver the festival in these conditions'.

The announcement comes after a week of heavy rainfall, which has caused flooding in areas across Greater Manchester and Cheshire.

Bosses say they are 'extremely disappointed' to have cancelled the festival, which has taken place at the Cheshire estate since 2014 and was due to return for its sixth year between August 2 and 4.

A statement issued by festival organisers said: "We are extremely disappointed to announce that we have had to take the decision to cancel this weekend's Rewind North Festival.

"This is due to the impact that the extreme weather experienced in recent weeks has had on the festival site.

"It is our belief that the safety and experience of our customers must always come first and as such we are unable to deliver the festival in these conditions."

As well a music bill that included Level 42 and Heaven 17, Rewind North was supposed to have a comedy stage, a fun fair, a chill-out area with hammocks, plus crazy golf, musical bingo, karaoke and an inflatable chapel.

Fans have already taken to Twitter to voice their disappointment, with one writing "So sad but safety first" and another saying "Gutted for me and gutted for you guys who put all the hard work in! See you next year!"

Ticket-holders are being advised to refer to point of purchase for refunds on their tickets. There's more information on how to get your money back here .
