Reward offered to help find Lanarkshire teenager's beloved pet ferret

A reward has been offered to help trace a beloved pet ferret missing since Saturday.

Sydney Wilkie, from Strathaven is desperate to be reunited with eight-month-old Summer who she has raised since she was weeks old.

Summer escaped from her hutch in the garden of the family home in Newton Road along with sister, Skye, who was found in another garden in the town playing with children.

But despite brief sightings, friendly and loving Summer is yet to be found.

Devastated Sydney, 18, told Lanarkshire Live : "I am absolutely gutted and have been out until all hours trying to find her.

"We got Skye back and even she is lost without her sister - I can't get her to eat and might have to get her to the vets to get her drip fed.

"Summer is a bit more anxious and nervous than her sister, but she won't hurt anyone.

"She is really friendly and loving. She is a sweetheart and is smaller than her sister with a black neck.

"I have had them since they were just five-weeks-old and I'm beside myself with worry.

"We think the hutch door wasn't closed right on Saturday night and that's how they got out - neither of them have ever went out the garden before and they have always went back into the hutch or house.

"I'm wondering if they got a fright.

"If folk could keep an eye out and check sheds, garages or any other outbuildings.

"I believe I saw her last night near the house - I saw her wee foot - but she got chased by a cat and ran off.

"A woman contacted me to say a ferret was found dead in Larkhall, but I don't think she would have been able to wander that far.

"She is too small and ferrets usually stay closer to home."

Anyone who spots Summer can contact Sydney on 07359 104865.
