Reward offered after vandal smashes Nottingham takeaway and films the damage

The owner of a Nottingham takeaway which has been providing food to hospital workers during the pandemic has hit out after his property was vandalised.

Ash Mehmood has put up a £1,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of the culprit who was captured on CCTV throwing bricks at the window of Jimbos, in Abbey Street, Lenton.

The offender can be seen throwing a brick and running off before turning back to the scene of the crime to he damage on his phone. Two minutes later he returned, lobbed the brick again and filmed it.

The incident happened around 3.16am on Friday, May 15.

Mr Mehmood said: "My shop’s front windows were smashed, causing considerable damage to property and distress to staff.

"It is very upsetting that such an act can occur during the midst of a global pandemic in these unprecedented times.

"During the last few months the business has endeavoured to providing hot food to the local community and in particular key workers at the QMC - we are two minutes away. To be the victims of criminal damage in these troubling times is really disappointing.

"The main reason we decided to stay open during the pandemic was to provide our services as a form of charity, after careful consideration and consultation with our staff we decided to remain open putting our staff in harm's way to serve the community and key workers in the local area.

"We have a considerable amount of customers that work in the public services industry, with ambulances drivers, nursers, junior doctors, firemen and women and police officers all eating with us on a regular basis."

He appealed to the culprit to come forward and admit their mistake, adding: "We have already hired private investigator to investigate this further as well as reported it to the police."

Sergeant Andrew Hallsworth, of Nottinghamshire Police’s City Central and West Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “We are committed to protecting local businesses and it is appalling that anyone would think it is acceptable to vandalise property in this way."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Notts Police on 101 quoting incident number 539 of 15 May 2020.
