'Revolutionary' hexagonal homes could get go ahead in Devon town

A Devon town could soon be home to four sustainable eco homes built in a 'revolutionary hexagonal design'.

If the planning application is granted, it would allow Dartmouth United Charities, South Hams District Council and HexxHomes to build a small amount of quirky homes in the area.

Dartmouth United Charities will be funding the scheme and is applying for a grant from Homes England to assist.

The modern houses will be occupied by local residents who have lived in the town for at least two years and who are in financial need.

The district council will be project managing the build which is of a 'revolutionary hexagonal design'. The modern day almshouses will be high quality, sustainable and will provide low maintenance, affordable and energy efficient homes.

The buildings will be constructed off-site and then built rapidly in their locations with minimum impact to the surrounding area.

South Hams District Council’s deputy leader, Cllr Hilary Bastone, said: "We’re thrilled to be working in partnership with Dartmouth United Charities to deliver these affordable homes for Dartmouth residents.

"Our community housing programme is going to be helping to deliver truly affordable homes using energy efficient materials, this will provide a home which is cost efficient not only to build, but also to live in.”
