A member of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps was killed on Monday in the northwestern border region with Iraq, reported the semi-official Fars news agency.
The Guards member was “assassinated” in the town of Piranshahr, Fars said.
It gave no information about who carried out the attack, said Reuters.
There are frequent clashes in western Iran between its security forces and Iranian Kurdish armed groups mostly based in neighboring Iraq, including the Party of Free Life of Kurdistan (PJAK), accused by Tehran of links to Kurdish Kurdistan Workers' Party in Turkey.
