Revolut card warning after woman conned out of €2,800

A warning has been issued over the use of Revolut cards after a woman was scammed out of over €2,800.

Scamwise NI issued a caution on behalf of the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) following a number of reports of fraud activity in relation to the popular card, which is operated through a mobile app.

It said that in one case a woman was using her Revolut card while on a trip to London and encountered some difficulties.

She looked up contact details for the company online and spoke to a man who asked for control of her phone to fix the problem.

She unwittingly gave him her details and he defrauded her of £2,400 (€2,800).

A spokesperson for Scamwise NI explained to Belfast Live: "Realising quickly what she'd done, she contacted her bank and managed to get her money back.

"Over the weekend, PSNI have received more reports similar to the one detailed above.

"We want you to be extra careful over the holiday period should you be travelling and you find yourself in a similar situation.

"NEVER allow anyone to have remote access to your accounts or devices unless you're 100% certain of who they are!"

In Northern Ireland, you can phone the PSNI on 101 if you are the victim of a crime or 999 in an emergency. Fraud can also be reported to Action Fraud by calling 0300 123 2040.

In the Republic of Ireland, report an incident of fraud to your local Garda station. In an emergency, contact 999 or 112.
