CHENNAI: Curriculum needs to be revised every year and if possible, every semester, to prepare students for future jobs, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) chairman Anil D Sahasrabudhe said here on Friday.
Inaugurating the “Techknow 2022”, a two-day seminar, job fair for engineering students at Anna University, he said, though the new and emerging areas such as AI, robotics, data science are providing golden opportunities for students, the curriculum was outdated.
More than three thousand students from Chennai and its neighbouring districts participated in the first day of the event organised by All India Manufacturers' Organisation (AIMO) along with Anna University, Consortium of Indian Association (CIA).
“Curriculum should not be revised once in a decade or in four or five years. Some developments are happening in each domain in the space of months and students need to stay updated,” he added.
He further said a strong collaboration between academia and industry will help the students to become employable and entrepreneurial.
“There is a mismatch between the skillset which employers look for and skillsets of job seekers. Unless the skill profiles are matched, employability cannot be improved,” said Sunil Barthwal, secretary, Union ministry of labour and employment.
“The future of work will be very diverse and constantly changing. Therefore the skills acquired by the students will be very, very important,” he added.
State higher education secretary D Karthikeyan also said there is a large gap between the industry expectations and the quality of students produced in the colleges.
