Review : Yoshi Switches things up in world-class adventure

The world of Super Mario is wild and wonderful and has introduced us to many lovable characters over the years.

None more so than Yoshi who’s had seven of his own games and now an eighth – Yoshi’s Crafted World on Nintendo Switch

Review: Since the heady days of Colin McCrae Rally 2.0 on the Playstation, Rally games have been ten-a-penny, but Codemasters have really delivered with their latest installment.

If ever a game was targeted for the kids (and by kids I mean under 10) who play the switch when Daddy’s not looking, this is it. You choose to play as one of the Yoshi in search of the missing gems of The Sundream Stone, cruelly taken by Kamek and Baby Bowser and scattered over Yoshi island.

Believe it or not, this game sits on a 2.5D plane, allowing players to move Yoshi through variations of direction, sometimes to the bewilderment of the player early on. But once you get the hang of it there are plenty of secrets to be found thanks to ingenious use of the camera angle.

Review: Days Gone which is exclusive to the PS4 has proved that it was worth the wait.

Like before, you wander through the side-scrolling levels, but now with an added dimension of play.

You still eat enemies to turn them into Yoshi eggs and now you can use them as projectiles to hit at pieces of background throughout each level, as well as wipe out enemies that are maybe too big to stick out a Yoshi tongue at. The levels are made up of torn paper, corrugated cardboard, paper plates etc – all things my eight- year-old daughter has in her numerous craft boxes and this game grabbed her with both hands and had her hooked from the start.

Review: Stephen continues his love affair with the Devil May Cry series of games and is just as impressed with number 5 as he was with all the others..maybe even more

She reckons it’s “better than Mario” and the “most colourful game she has ever played”. Given that it is a picturesque collection of pastel colour, she is bang on the money. It has plenty of ideas that put me in mind of Playstation classic Little Big Planet, but with a Nintendo slant on gameplay.

Although relatively easy to play, the challenge for the more accomplished player is finding the daisy flower heads across Yoshi Island.

In a game that invites you to explore every nook and cranny, there are no time limits, so take your time and enjoy it, on what is one of the best and most diverse consoles ever made
