Review: Scoff Cafe, East Fountainbridge

The snow has blanketed the streets of Edinburgh in crisp white velvet and jack frost is sweet talking the heat in finger tips and noses everywhere, wooing the warmth away.

It's a Sunday afternoon and there is no food in the house. It's time to refuel. I go to Scoff where the owner treats me like her little sister and fattens me up with gorgeous wholesome grub and has the LP player playing Motown records.

The dinky little cafe not only serves up beautiful soups, panini, pastries, pudding, tea, breakfast and whatever else I haven't tried yet, but the place is so welcoming. It's this kind of place where I could see myself when I'm 50, and reading my paper drinking my tea.

The lovely lady (with an equally lovely, dainty, cropped hair do) serves up your order asap and it's not expensive.

The warmth of the atmosphere draws people in, not to mention the quality of food and the inexpensiveness. Students even get discount on top of the great prices, which makes it no surprise that the students of Edinburgh College of Art saunter down to feed their slinky frames.

I think this could be my new hang out. I can see my future texts to friends, "meet you at Scoff in 5!"

I sit in the cafe and sip my tomato and basil soup, watching the snow envelope the buildings and road outside. I'll be able to brave it after this... well after a hot chocolate and pan au chocolate.

Scoff is at 5 East Fountainbridge and open between 7am and 5pm. Emma Parks is a regular reviewer on Is This Music?
