Review: Omagh favourite The Kitchen shows why it’s one of the town’s go-to spots

The great range of places to eat around Omagh meant it was a difficult decision to know where to stop in for this week’s bite to eat.

That’s not a bad problem to have in fairness, and it’s a positive sign to see so many options around the Co Tyrone town.

One place I’ve had a lot of recommendations for however and decided to pop into was The Kitchen.

The Kitchen is located on Castle Street in the town, and owned by the same friendly people from the newly opened Forage and Folk deli.

This spot is well thought of by people of the town and a flying visit on a Thursday lunchtime proved that with the place packed out.

I started out with a coffee as I finished up some work and it was really smooth and went down well.

A glance at the menu had me salivating already. On the lunch menu, most dishes ranged between £10 and £12 and there was plenty to choose from – burgers, tacos, subs and other street food type options.

I spied the ‘BBQ Korean Fried Chicken Burger’ though and couldn’t divert my eyes away, so that’s what I ordered.

It came out with a healthy dollop of creamy slaw, lettuce, tomato – the works basically.

The burger itself was nice and juicy on the inside, crispy on the outside, as any good chicken burger should be.

The star of the show however was the Korean BBQ sauce, which was really tangy and just hit right.

The meal came with a tall portion of lattice fries, extra crispy and made a great addition to scoop up some of the overflow from the burger.

All in all, the food couldn’t be faulted and definitely good value for money as well.

The food did take a while to come out but as I said it was extremely busy with a few large groups coming in at the same time.

Another small issue was the size of the serving board everything came on, with a messy burger and my poor co-ordination, there was a bit of a job in keeping everything off the table!

That apart, I have to say I really enjoyed my visit and will definitely be back to try some other stuff from their fantastic menu.
