'Reverse, reverse!' Crash chaos as bemused driver fails to realise car is wrecked

A stunned crash driver can't believe what's happened as a passer by tells him his car is a write-off despite a traffic light pole sticking out his bonnet.

The bemused motorist looks confused as he attempts to push his mangled black car from the wreckage following the crash on the A730 in Rutherglen near Glasgow at around 4pm on Thursday.

In a video recorded shortly after the collision with the traffic light on the busy road, the driver claims he is stuck before quickly exiting as the passer-by tells him they need to call the cops.

After he jumps out to survey the damage he tells his mate still inside to reverse his car as he frantically pushes the smashed up vehicle.

Despite the fact the bashed pole is indented in the bonnet, a front wheel is totally buckled and the bumper hanging off the car - the man looks determined to get it moving.

The witness says the passenger then later tried to help him free the car before the hapless pair gave up.

The video was posted on social media earlier this evening and has already received half a million views.

A passer-by told the Daily Record police were called to the scene.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: Around 4.10 pm on Thursday, 15 October, 2020 police were called to a road crash in which a black car had collided with traffic lights on Kings Park Ave, Rutherglen.

"No injuries to the male driver nor the male passenger.

"A 36-year-old man has been arrested, charged and released on an undertaking to appear at court at a later date for alleged road traffic offences."
