Revenue officers have seized more than 1.9 million cigarettes at Dublin Port on Wednesday with the help of their detector dog, Waffle.
The estimated value of the shipment was €1.4 million, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of around €1.1 million.
This seizure is part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting the shadow economy and the supply and sale of illegal tobacco products.

Investigations are ongoing and the public continues to be urged to report any information around smuggling.
A spokesperson for the Revenue confirmed: “Yesterday (07/09/2022), as a result of routine profiling and with the assistance of detector dog Waffle, Revenue officers seized over 1.9 million cigarettes at Dublin Port.
“The consignment of illegal cigarettes branded ‘Manchester’, had an estimated retail value of €1.4 million, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €1.1 million.
“Investigations are ongoing.
“This seizure is part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting the shadow economy and the supply and sale of illegal tobacco products.
