Revenue seizes ecstasy and cannabis concealed as 'herbal tea' in parcels

Revenue officers have seized over €159,700 worth of ecstasy and cannabis in Dublin today.

The illegal drugs were concealed as 'herbal tea' and were found when officers examined parcels at two premises in Dublin.

The routine operation led to over 7.8kgs of herbal cannabis and 252 ecstasy tablets being discovered.

Detector dog Bailey helped to uncover the packages that were labelled as different types of herbal teas.

The packages originated in the US, Canada, Spain and the Netherlands and were heading to addresses in Wexford, Waterford and Tipperary.

Investigations are ongoing.

A Revenue spokeswoman said: "This seizure is part of Revenue's ongoing operations targeting the importation of illegal drugs. If businesses or members of the public have any information regarding smuggling, they can contact Revenue in confidence on Confidential Phone Number 1800 295 295."
