Revenue seize over €6 million worth of cigarettes at Dublin Port

Revenue have seized approximately 8 million smuggled cigarettes during routine operations at Dublin Port.

Revenue officers found the cigarettes at Dublin Port, with the assistance of detector dog Milo and a mobile x-ray scanner. The cigarettes have a retail value of €6.25 million, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of €4.95 million.

The illicit cigarettes were branded as 'Lambert and Butler' and lay concealed in a consignment labelled as 'food stuff.' It is believed the cigarettes originated in Poland and arrived in an unaccompanied trailer via Rotterdam.

The seizure forms part of Revenue's ongoing operations tackling the shadow economy and the supply of illegal tobacco products. Anyone with information on smuggling can contact Revenue in confidence on the free phone number 1800 295 295.
