Revenue seize more than nine million cigarettes during searches at Dublin Port

Cigarettes worth almost €7 million have been seized in Dublin Port.

Revenue officers discovered the 9.2 million cigarettes during routine profiling on Friday.

Thanks to the use of a mobile X-ray scanner and detector dog Kelly, the consignment of illegal items were found.

The cigarettes were branded ‘Kingdom’ and originated in Bulgaria.

They had an estimated retail value of €6.9 million, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €5.4 million.

This seizure was part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting the shadow economy and the supply and sale of illegal tobacco products.

Revenue added that its investigations are ongoing.
