Revenue seize huge drugs haul of cannabis worth almost €3 million at Dublin Port

A man in his 40s was arrested after Revenue officers seized cannabis worth nearly €3 million at Dublin Port today.

Around 142kgs of herbal cannabis was found when officers stopped and searched a vehicle which had arrived from France on Sunday.

Gardai were called and they arrested a man, aged in his 40s, in relation to the drug haul.

He is currently being detained at a Garda Station in Dublin on Sunday night under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.

A spokesperson said: "Today, as part of routine operations, Revenue officers seized approximately 142kgs of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of €2.84 million at Dublin Port.

"The illicit drugs were discovered when Revenue officers stopped and searched a vehicle which had arrived from France.

"A man in his 40s was arrested by An Garda Síochána and is currently detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 at a Garda Station in Dublin.

"Investigations are ongoing.

"This seizure is part of Revenue’s ongoing joint investigations targeting organised crime groups and the importation, sale and supply of illegal drugs.
