Revenue seize almost €390,000 cash found in truck at Dublin Port

Revenue officers have seized almost €390,000 in cash which was hidden in a truck at Dublin Port.

The cash was discovered as a result of routine profiling on Wednesday. The find consisted of over €367,000 and £1,200 sterling (€1,366).

Judge Treasa Kelly granted Revenue officers a three-month cash detention order earlier today. The truck was stopped and searched before departing the port for the UK, with the money being discovered with the help of detector dog Robbie.

It is suspected the cash is the proceeds of, or intended for use in, criminal activity and has been detained by Revenue in accordance with proceeds of crime legislation. A man in his 50s from Northern Ireland was taken by gardai to Store Street Garda station for questioning following the find with investigations continuing.

A Revenue spokeswoman said: "This seizure is part of Revenue's ongoing work targeting smuggling and shadow economy activity. If businesses, or members of the public have any information, they can contact Revenue in confidence on Confidential Phone Number 1800 295 295."
