Revenue seize almost 3 million cigarettes at Dublin Port

Revenue officials seized almost 3 million cigarettes worth more than €2.3m at Dublin Port yesterday.

The huge haul was discovered in metal frames in a consignment arriving from Poland as a result of routine profiling. Officers were assisted by detector dog Gus, who helped sniff out the illegal smokes.

The cigarettes were branded ‘Marlboro’ and represented a potential loss to the Exchequer of around €1.8 million. A Revenue spokeswoman said investigations into the find are continuing.
