Revenue officers seize €7.7 million worth of rolling tobacco at Dublin Port

The Revenue has confirmed that around €7.7 million worth of 'roll your own' tobacco was seized at Dublin Port on Tuesday, July 6.

According to a report, it was with the assistance of Revenue’s mobile X-ray scanner and their detector dog Waffle that enabled officers to locate and seize over 12.5 tonnes of tobacco at the port.

The bust included brands such as ‘The Turner Original’, ‘EastEnders’, ‘Henley’ and ‘Flandria’, all originating from Bulgaria.

The estimated retail value of the entire 12.5 tonnes is around €7.7 million, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €6.3 million.

This seizure is part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting the shadow economy and the supply and sale of illegal tobacco products.

If businesses or members of the public have any information regarding smuggling, they are asked to contact Revenue in confidence on freephone number 1800 295 295.

No further information is available as investigations are ongoing.
