Revenue intercept shipment from the Netherlands at Dublin Port and make million-euro bust

Revenue officers at Dublin Port caught a shipment of over €1.3 million worth of illegal cigarettes arriving for the purpose of resale.

According to reports, the major bust consisted of 1.8 tonnes of ‘roll your own’ tobacco representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €990,000.

The tobacco, which arrived in from the Netherlands, was branded as ‘Flandria’ with a Lithuanian tax stamp, was discovered when officers searched a consignment that arrived into Dublin Port on October 4.

A spokesperson for the Revenue confirmed that “today, as a result of routine profiling, Revenue officers seized 1.8 tonnes of ‘roll your own’ tobacco at Dublin Port, with an estimated retail value of €1.3 million, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €990,000.

“The illicit tobacco, branded ‘Flandria’ and bearing a Lithuanian tax stamp, was discovered when officers searched a consignment that arrived at Dublin Port from the Netherlands.”

This seizure was part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting the shadow economy and the supply and sale of illegal tobacco products and investigations are ongoing into this specific seizure.
