Revenue extends tax return pay and file deadline after online service goes down

Revenue has extended the deadline for its Pay and File tax return system after its online service went down today.

Taxpayers were quick to voice their annoyances to the Government organisation's social media accounts after the Revenue Online Service (ROS) delivered an error message on tax deadline day today.

The text when trying to access ros.ie read: "The Revenue On-Line Service is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later. Thank you."

People were looking to take advantage of an already extended deadline for 2018 Form 11 Income Tax returns using the online system.

It was for those looking to pay preliminary tax for 2019 and settle their income tax balance due for 2018.

The deadline was two days shorter than 2018's date of November 14.

And because of the problems with the site, Revenue tweeted this afternoon: "The 2018 Pay and File deadline has been extended until 6pm, 13 November 2019."

It is not clear when ROS will be restored or if the deadline will be extended again if it continues to stay down.

Revenue's error message added: "If you wish you may contact the Revenue On-Line Service information desk at 01 738 36 99 from 9.15 am to 5.00 pm Monday to Friday or by e-mail to roshelp@revenue.ie."
