Revellers warned over lax distancing outside restaurants, bars

Health Minister Rachel Stephen-Smith has warned Canberrans need to take individual responsibility for social distancing, amid reports of large groups of people lining up outside venues at the weekend.

She said reports from police indicated bars and restaurants were largely doing the right thing.

"But people who are lining up outside those venues are not necessarily hearing the message in relation to the requirement for physical distancing," she said.

"It's a reminder that ... individuals also have a responsibility to make sure they are maintaining a physical distance from people they don't share a house with, to ensure we absolutely minimise the spread of COVID-19 if we do have cases in the ACT."

It has now been more than two weeks since the ACT recorded a new coronavirus case.

More than 130 Canberrans who visited Batemans Bay Soldiers Club earlier in the month remain in quarantine, after eight cases were linked to the venue.
