Revellers out in force for 2020 Dee Dip at Crossmichael

The New Year got off to a chilly start for some revellers on Wednesday morning as they took part in the Dee Dip.

The brave souls ran into the cold waters of Loch Ken at Crossmichael, some raising money for charity while others did it just for fun.

Organiser Jim McLelland said: “There were about 50 or 60 people in the water. It’s such a big group it’s hard to count them all.

“There were 50 or 60 watching as well and we rattled the can and raised £134.76 for Dumfries and Galloway Canine Rescue.

Last out of the water was Liz Hunter. (Drew Geddes)

“The water temperature was four and a half degrees. Liz Hunter was in the water for the longest, which she has been for the last few years.

“We don’t really encourage people to stay in the water too long now as a few years ago three people stayed in for more than half an hour and one of them was ill for three days after.

“There were also 10 people who went for a swim beforehand.

“Two people didn’t have wetsuits but the rest had a bit more sense.”
