Reveller in court on GBH charges after punch up in Union Rooms pub

A 25-year-old is accused of being part of a violent Union Rooms brawl.

North Tyneside Magistrates' Court heard a pint was poured over a punters head which sparked a clash between two groups, one of which included Ryan Sparrow.

Prosecutor Lee Poppett alleged Ryan Sparrow then threw punches, injuring two men.

One victim is said to have suffered a 3cm "full thickness laceration" following the alleged November 3 incident.

On Tuesday, the Ashington defendant entered no plea to charges of inflicting GBH without intent and assaulting a person therefore inflicting actual bodily harm.

The three person bench agreed the case could be heard before them but Sparrow elected to have his case heard before a judge.

The accused, from Epsom Drive, was granted unconditional bail to appear at Newcastle Crown Court on August 13.
