Revealed: the West Ham first team chiefs watching the U23s take on Everton

West Ham director of football Mario Husillos, first team assistant manager Ruben Cousillas and goalkeeping coach Xavi Valero were all interested observers at West Ham U23s vital clash with Everton at the London Stadium.

Cousillas was no doubt running the rule over first teamers Carlos Sanchez, making his return to competitive action after eight months out with a serious knee injury and looking to get some first team minutes in the final two games of the Premier League season.

Also in the directors box was goalkeeper coach Xavi Valero, keeping a close eye on goalkeeper Nathan Trott, who was making a rare appearance for the youngsters having spent much of the season with the first team, especially in training.

Director of football Husillos could just be here for fun, we don't know, but he's at London Stadium as well taking in the game. Husillos is a trusted lieutenant of manager Manuel Pellegrini, who will no doubt value his input into players who are on the fringes or could break into the first team.

Pellegrini himself is not in attendance at London Stadium for the game, choosing to send his his staff instead.

Liam Manning's youngsters are playing a crucial game in Stratford as they battle for survival in PL2 division one. The Hammers simply have to beat Everton this evening and also hope that Spurs don't pick up any points in their game against Derby which is taking place at the same time.

The Hammers are 1-0 up at the break thanks to Grady Diangana's goal but Spurs are currently beating Swansea 2-1.
