Revealed: The sheer number of Eintracht Frankfurt fans who could descend on Chelsea for clash

Chelsea fans will be keen to head to Eintracht Frankfurt next week, however the German club seem to be even more keen to get a ticket for the away leg at Stamford Bridge.

The Bundesliga side head to west London on May 9 for the Europa League semi-final second leg and they have confirmed that in just 24 hours they have 15,000 requests for tickets.

That is going to mean a lot of Eintracht fans are going to be left disappointed, however, with the usual UEFA allocation of tickets to an away team being only 5% of the total capacity, which is a little over the 2,000 of the 41,631 the Bridge holds.

A statement on the Frankfurt club's website read: "During the 24-hour sales phase, around 15,000 tickets were placed in Eintracht's viewer service, which in turn means that the ticket request is eight times higher than the guest quota. Other ticket orders will no longer be accepted.

"Stamford Bridge is home to around 41,000 seats in international games. The games of the "Blues" are sold out.

"Eintracht Frankfurt therefore only receives the UEFA regular quota (5% of total capacity) of 2,235 tickets. All inquiries are processed quickly. Eintracht Frankfurt asks for understanding that interim inquiries about the current order status can not be answered."

Of course, many more might still be looking to make the short journey over to London in an attempt to get a ticket or to be part of the experience.

However, Chelsea will be hoping to avoid what happened to Arsenal when FC Koln made the trip to north London back in September 2017.

Around 20,000 Koln fans made the trip to London for the Europa League group stage match and kick off was delayed by an hour after security fears and that some away fans managed to get into the home end.

Arsenal went on to win the match 3-1, but Chelsea will be vigilant to make sure they don't have an experience which causes disruption at Stamford Bridge.
